Attorney General Andrea Campbell announced on Thursday that her office has entered into an agreement that paves the way for an environmental cleanup of the former Exxon Mobil tank farm in Everett. Boston developer Davis Companies acquired the nearly 100-acre site in late 2023 for $72.5 million. At the time, Davis said it had formed a partnership with Waltham-based fuel company Global Partners to clean up and develop the parcel; the developer was also applying to a brownfields program overseen by Campbell’s office that would indemnify the developer from future lawsuits over contamination at the site in return for cleaning up the property. It’s this approval of a so-called Brownfields Covenant Not to Sue Agreement that Campbell’s office is announcing now, although the actual agreement was reached in March. Davis is working on plans for a massive development at the site that could feature a mix of multifamily residential, industrial, and clean-tech buildings as well as retail and hotel uses. The sprawling site stretches from Route 16 to the Mystic River.
